Steel Magnolias:
ACT II opens its exciting 19th season with Robert Harling’s Steel Magnolias.
Truvy’s Beauty Salon is the unofficial hub of Chinquapin, Louisiana,
and the backdrop of this alternately hilarious and touching story of
female friendship. The play focuses on the camaraderie of six
softhearted “magnolias” with steely dispositions who gossip, needle and
harangue each other through the best of times and comfort and repair one
another through the worst. As the women come face to face with life’s
most difficult times, they are brought together through strength and
love.
The Mousetrap by Agatha Christie:
On a cold winter's night no one was stirring, not even a mouse. No
one that is, but a murderer in the house. The most famous 'whodunit'
finally comes to the ACT II stage. Written by the undisputed mistress
of the thriller genre, The Mousetrap follows a group of
strangers - one of whom is a murderer - trapped in a boarding house
during a snowstorm. Is it the newlyweds whose rampant suspicions nearly
wreck their marriage, or the spinster with the curious background?
Perhaps it is the architect, the retired Army major, or the odd man who
claims his car overturned in a snowdrift? Here's your opportunity to
enjoy every suspenseful moment and unexpected revelation in the
longest-running show in theatre history.
Red, White and Tuna:
The much anticipated third installment in the Tuna trilogy takes the
audience on another satirical ride into the hearts of Texas' third
smallest town. Tuna's perennial favorites plus some new Tuna denizens
set the stage for fireworks and fun from the land where the Lion's Club
is too liberal and Patsy Cline never dies. It's been several years since
we left Bertha and Arles dancing at the end of A Tuna Christmas.
Did the romance blossom? Has Didi Snavley received any "cosmic"
communications from R.R.'s UFO? Did Stanley make his fortune in the
Albuquerque taxidermy business? These and other burning questions will
be answered in this sidesplitting spoof of life in rural America.
Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street
ACT II closes its sensational 19th season with the 8-time TONY Award winning and world renowned musical, Sweeney Todd,
with music and lyrics by the incomparable Stephen Sondheim and book by
Hugh Wheeler. In this musical thriller set in London, Benjamin Barker, a
respected barber, loving husband and new father is exiled and
wrongfully imprisoned in Australia for 15 years by the evil Judge
Turpin. He returns to London, assuming the name Sweeney Todd, to
discover his wife is dead and his daughter is a ward of the very man who
imprisoned him. Todd enlists his former landlady and local pie show
owner Mrs. Lovett to once again set up his shop above her failing
business with only one mission...revenge. Director Landon Shaw is
anxious to share what he calls, "a truly unique and beautiful love
story" with ACT II audiences.
Please note that Sweeney Todd may not be suitable for younger audiences.
